Snoop Dogg helps with 4th-grade math
Megan Marie Allen has a unique approach to teaching her 4th-grade class. As she says, “anything to get them interested in the subjects.” Like wearing military fatigues when the kids are doing writing drills.
The 30-year-old teacher at Cleveland Elementary in Tampa, Florida, also uses popular songs to hold their attention. Her students dance to “Drop the Decimal Like It’s Hot” – a take-off on a Snoop Dogg rap hit.

Ms. Allen has taught in at-risk schools, participated in community service projects, and keeps a kid-friendly classroom. In July, 2009, she was named Florida’s Teacher of the Year. The competition is sponsored by Macy’s and she received $10,000.00 from the company and a trip in November to New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The runners-up each received $5,000.00 and a Macy’s gift card. They were Melissa Reiker, Patricia Fairclough, Emily Barbacci, and Marilynn Pedek. Congratulations, ladies. Maybe we’ll see a male teacher in the finals next year?
